SEATTLE THRIFT SHOPS ARE THE BEST
July 29, 2008 · 1 Comment

thrift store shopping is for sure a hobbie of mine. One of my favorite things to do when I go back home is to go to my favorite Value village in Bremerton. it’s run by the same good ole SAVERS poeple. I have tried other states and cities and Bremerton is definately one of the best. its organized really well.. and not picked over, because the only people around are the people that brought the clothes there. hahaa. that means fresh pickin. There is a WHOLE section for Vintage clothes. YES!! I have to be really careful though. Here are some of my..
THRIFT STORE POINTERS:
1. Only buy when you absolutely love it.
2. visualize clothes out of their context.. would you like it if it was from urban outfitters??
3. if you cant decide what you think about a peice, say how much you would pay for it (before looking at the price), then look at the price. If its over what you said… then skip it.
4. look out for fakers: Just because the piece looks better then the REST of the clothes THERE… doesnt mean you need to take it home. you will never wear it.
5. never forget to stop by the shoes, jewelry, glasses, ties, scarves, belts. you might find a gem.
what are your thrift store guidelines??? tips? to-dos? don’ts?
here is a peak at my new finds:

THREAD: CREATIVE GROUP TALK
July 20, 2008 · 7 Comments

Cornerstone (the church I do design at) is in a series called THREAD!! i actually hand sewed the logo. hahaha. fun times. anyway, today we had a guest speaker named Mark Connelly. He talked about how the church needs to come together with their gifts to complete the body of christ. IF we are disconnected from the Body of Christ then we are a limb that is disconnected from the body, and what good is just an arm or a leg, or a body part? it can’t function to it’s full potential. That really challenged me today to think about what i am doing. I feel like I am USING my God given gifts, but what more can I be doing?? I mean just because I am already using my gifts for my job doesnt mean I cant use them in my serving time as well. I always think that “serving” means that I have to go outside of what I like or what I am good at. hahaha. that is soo silly.
I have this reoccuring idea. -and I believe maybe God has been speaking to me about this. I have tried to put it off and put it off thinking that it wouldnt work. BUt I still have a heart for art, creativity and people that would love to serve with their gifts and abilities. I would love to put together some kind of creative group (for the church perhaps) The group could meet from time to time and discuss what we could do with our talents. Maybe having an auction, selling art and donating it to a missions group or something. Or maybe taking photos of a family that cant afford family photos.
I am not sure what this would be like or where God would lead it to go. But i would like to start the dialog about what a group would look like. Maybe a website with a logo, and a store to buy art/prints at. The group would be for all visual Media arts! I even like the idea of building artists up in the community, maybe we hold classes and teach eachother and share techniques and ideas.
I am up for all kinds of feedback on this. and OR links to churches that may have done something like this before. shoot me a comment with your feedback. i am in the beginning stages with this thought and would LOVE helpful advice, ideas, feedback. thanks a ton. I would love to see this group be an energetic group that the church looks to for creativity and artistic expression.
-loves

this guy is amazing. DAMIEN CORRELL. he has done some designs for Urban Outfitters, layouts and stuff. Great work. I stop by his website from time to time because he always has new stuff up. i love his childlike feel in his work, mixed with very artistic urban scribbles and color choices. this guy is worth the book mark. here is his link:damiencorrell.com

IPHOTO PRINT PRODUCTS ROCK
July 16, 2008 · 6 Comments
THE NEW SCRAPBOOKING ROCKS!!! The apple photo books are amazing. They are so simple yet so sleek. Apple seriously knows whats up. I was extreamly impressed to receive this in the mail, as a little gift i made for brian. You can design your own look and feel by just dropping your photos into a template. You get to design the template though. ITS SOO easy. and the sleek clear bag just puts the cherry on top. I am really into clear bags right now. I want everything to have a clear bag. haha. here are a few clips from the photobook. i made the 6×8 soft cover. you should make one. $12 bucks.
